大眾傳播研究之敘事取向──另一後設理論思路之提議

  大眾傳播領域自二十世紀五○年代發跡迄今已逾半個世紀,疲態漸生,急需引進不同研究視角。本文建議以九○年代起即已廣受重視之敘事取向為例,改視大眾傳播為「在某些特定時空情境、透過中介人造物件並常藉由大眾媒介管道述說故事的歷程」,其內容涉及講述者之自述/他述生命故事,旨在抒發情感、激發想像、促進彼此傾聽以建立社區感,進而體驗人生、瞭解生命意義、創造美好生活,與傳統實證主義效果論之思維顯有不同。

The Narrative Approach to Mass Communication Research: Alternative Metatheoretical Suggestions

  More than half a century has passed since the birth of the study of mass communication in the late 1940s. The area has recently been criticized for being boring and lacking in creative ideas. Its future development urgently needs new perspectives. In this paper, we propose to introduce the narrative approach, which many social sciences disciplines have welcomed since the 1990s, and suggest viewing mass communication as a narration of personal experiences, mutual relations, and storytelling through intermediate channels, such as the mass media, rather than as process fulfilling the goals of the message sender. Therefore, one should view the purposes of mass communication to express emotion, arouse the imagination, help listen to one another, and build a sense of community, to experience the meaning of life and to beautify the poetic life.

試析傳播情境之時空概念:「旅行敘事」之啟示

 本文旨在延續有關「旅行敘事」之討論,進而以「時間」與「空間」(time and space)為核心概念試析其對旅行敘事文本之作用。由於相關研究者過去習視「時空」為傳播背景或輪廓而少關心其對「述說」(discourse)之重要性,本文試圖引介相關文獻指出時空與人物同樣均係建構情節鋪陳之要素,而旅行敘事尤因涉及了敘事者外出又回到家的時空移動(mobility),其書寫必也涉及個人自我經驗、過往生命以及其他「文化地理」間的連結,其使用對文本流暢當至為關鍵。

Time and space as communication context in travel narrative

 The purpose of this study is to follow our earlier discussion on travel narrative by re-focusing on the possible influences of time and space. Researchers in the social sciences have long treated these two concepts as background and paid insignificant attention. In this paper, however, we argue that the connection of time and space does play important functions in plot enactment. And in travel narratives, since most stories are accomplished as self-accounting of leaving and returning home, time and space are two key elements, along with other factors, that guarantee the textual fluency.

新聞記者的想像思維 – 再論想像與新聞報導的關連

 新聞從業人員的想像力非全如文學領域所論的「自由幻想」,乃依知性法則且深受個人經驗所限,而採寫過程之演繹與歸納事實工作俱屬知性經驗的想像思維運作和顯現。因而記者的想像是按已有表象或客觀事物反映的形象,根據一定方式加工、改造進而建立新形象。延續過去文獻,本文討論記者撰稿過程是否含有思維加工、如何運用想像思維完成寫作、如何依據認知劇本撰寫新聞。首先選取 2011 年七月 23 日挪威極右派分子殺戮 76 名無辜青少年的國際新聞為案例,發現連續三天之新聞報導均出現了記者運用想像加工事實之線索,繼而以十七份由記者回填的問卷內容討論其是否及如何運用想像思維。
本文發現,「預期想像」輔助記者提出好的採訪問題,而「再造想像」是記者們最常運用的寫作思維。

Connections between Imagination and News Reporting

  Imagination is defined in this article as one type of mental abilities which helps one to infer facts in the processes of reasoning. Although not directly shown in most straight news stories, such mental process still plays a critical role in reconstructing realities in a reporter’s professional work in theory.
This paper examines and analyzes one mass murder case in Norway happened July 23, 2011 in order to explore how imagination may be applied to news writing and therefore increases the readability in news stories. Seventeen Taiwanese reporters were then surveyed with a purpose to associate theory to practices and to know how these reporters said that imagination was applied in their news writings.

讀者詮釋無字繪本之美感傳播歷程初探:以安野光雅《旅之繪本》書系為例

 本研究考量「圖像詮釋」研究系譜變遷,故以讀者反應論之「美感傳播模式」為思考起點,將讀者與文本交流視為「藝術創作端」及「美感接收端」對話歷程。以藝術創作端言之,本研究闡釋圖像敘事之召喚式結構;以美感接收端言之,本文則援引圖像解讀等實證研究結果,以個人式與想像式解讀圖像詮釋歷程。
  本文以讀者詮釋無字繪本(wordless picturebook)之美感反應為例,盼細緻化圖像敘事之美感傳播歷程。研究發現,讀者五感聯想、類型知識、繪本創作經驗等均可賦予圖像新義;讀者亦可重組畫頁之敘事邏輯,感知圖像若動畫般可視覺連戲,而享再創作之美感反應。

A pilot study on the aesthetic communication process of readers interpreting wordless picturebooks based on the Anno’s Journey series

This study investigated the genealogy of iconographic interpretation. By adopting an aesthetic communication model for reader responses as the basis for consideration, we regarded reader-book interactions as the artistic and receptive poles of the conversational process. Regarding the artistic pole, we explored the inviting structure of iconographic narrative. Regarding the receptive pole, we cited empirical studies in which the results are related to iconographic interpretation, in addition to using personal and imaginative styles to analyze the process of interpreting images. By exemplifying the aesthetic responses of readers when interpreting wordless picture books, we endeavored to refine the aesthetic communication process of pictorial narrative. The findings indicate that the sensory associations, genre knowledge, and picture book creation experiences of the readers introduce new meaning to imagery. Readers can also experience the aesthetic response of re-creation by restructuring the narrative logic of the wordless pages and visually connecting the perceived images, tasks that are similar to the process of animation.
