老人與大眾傳播情境(國科會期中報告)

台灣老人與大眾傳播的關係為何?老人如何透過大眾傳播管道,如電視、報紙,媒介其對社會的認知?老人基於其身、心特質,與媒介訊息互動的方式及結果為何?
本研究關切的問題不僅只於掌握台灣老人的傳播行為,而是以老人為研究對象,以溝通為研究的核心概念,去探討:
(一)老人透過大傳媒介對現代科技社會所產生的認知,以及現代社會透過大傳媒介對老人產生的態度分別為何?(二)大傳媒介中有關老人刻板印象式的描繪如何影響老人建構自己的形象?或影響老人的現實生活?(三)老人以有限的媒介素養,衰退的記憶、聽力,他的溝通能力和語言策略如何影響他與大傳媒介訊息互動?(四)老人的生活形態與自我認同如何影響媒介使用?而大傳媒介文本與老人生活、認知、情緒以何種方式相關?
目前國內針對本地老人與媒介互動的真相或描述老人面對媒介文本所經驗的心理過程之研究非常缺乏。本研究的目的即在描述老人基於不同於一般閱聽眾的溝通能力和媒介素養,如何與大眾傳播媒介產生認知與行為上的互動。本研究嘗試以跨領域方式進行,相關的一系列理論奠基於認知、語言、傳播、以及系統互動關係,最終方向在尋找特定閱聽眾與大眾傳播媒介互動模式的理論。

What is the relationship between media and Taiwanese older audience? How Taiwanese older audience interact with his society through the use of mass communication, say television and newspaper? Are there communication or any expected media effects?
This research concerns with four major areas: (a) What is an older adult’s general recognition on his immediate society after the use of media? What is the attitude of the public toward an older adult after the use of media? (b) How an older adult constructs his own image after he views a stereotyped portrayal of himself on the media? (c) With limited media literacy and memory and/or audio problems can an older adult profit or gain from the media in terms of changing his life style or self-image? (d) How does an older adult relate himself to the media psychologically and emotionally?
Taiwan has no related reports on the above-proposed research topics at this moment. It is the purpose of this research to provide knowledge on the media use of an older population as well as a psychological and emotional affect upon older adults after the media use. In addition, this research attempts to construct a general communication theory among several interdisciplinary schools such as language, psychology, communication and systems theory.
